InterAction Share 2017 – Data Pruning for GDPR

If you already have a feeling that you are drowning in data and wondering how you will manage it to demonstrate compliance with the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) that is coming into force from May 2018, InterAction Share on the 8th June 2017 will offer some very practical assistance. Gary Hibberd, Cyber Security and Data Protection expert from Agenci, will deliver a presentation on dispelling the myths about the new regulation, suggesting areas that you should focus your data efforts on.

A significant point of note with regards to data, is that demonstrating compliance is the key difference between the current Data Protection Act and the GDPR. Building on Gary's presentation, members of our Professional Services team and I will offer guidance on how InterAction can be used to prune your data set and leave a garden of contacts that the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) would be proud of. After all, if you can match the recommendations set by the ICO, you are well on your way to complying with the regulations.

GDPR is going to have a massive impact on your role over the coming months, so here are some questions to consider ahead of the presentations at InterAction Share 2017:

  • Have you reviewed your data in InterAction to understand what information you have recorded about individuals and why?
  • Have you gone through a deletion or archiving process recently in preparation for GDPR? Is this process regular and proactive?
  • Do you have processes in place that clearly demonstrate that individuals have agreed to receive marketing information from you?
  • For those who have consented to receiving information from you, do you have an exact record of consent for each person?
  • Do you have a clear and unambiguous explanation of what data you hold about individuals and what you use it for? If so, is this explanation easily accessible by clients and prospects?
  • Do you hold a significant amount of out of date information on contacts in InterAction, or perhaps records of individuals with whom there has been no communication for two years?

Responses to these questions will highlight some of the areas that you should focus on, to comply with the GDPR next year.
